When onboard audio isn't good enough

Powercolor Devil HDX

Soundcards aren't as popular as they once were now that onboard audio solutions aren't complete crap, but for those who own high quality speakers and want a premium audio experience, they're still relevant. Powercolor seems to agree, as it unveiled a Devil HDX PCI Express 7.1 channel soundcard

Audio chores are handled by a C-Media CM8888 chip, the same as found on Asus' Xonar Phoebus 7.1 gaming soundcard. It also boasts a Wolfson WM8741 Digital-to-Analog converter (DAC) and headphone amplifier rated for up to 600 ohms.

Powercolor says the use of "supreme quality components" and "excellent layout design" allow it to reach a 124dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) via RCA output (120dB via 6.3mm headphone output).

In addition to the above referenced 6.3mm headphone output and RCA jacks (L/R), it also features swappable OP-amp sockets, an EMI shield, coaxial and optical connections, plus a multi-channel connector and HD Audio connector to a Daughter boards that has a 3.5mm microphone input and four 3.5mm analog outputs (front/rear/center-subwoofer/side).

Powercolor didn't say when the Devil HDX will be available or how much it will cost.
